Unit of work and Energy

Unit of work and Energy

  • What is said to be done on a body when a force acts on it and the body moves through some distance the work done is stored in the body in the form of energy. therefore  work and energy are measured in the same unit. the SI unit of work and energy is joules or Newton metre and is defined as :

  • The work done on a body is 1 joule if a force of 1 Newton Moves the body through out 1m in the direction of force.
  • It may be noted that work done or energy possessed in an electrical circuit or mechanical system thermal system is measured in the same unit viz. Joules. This is expected because mechanical, Electrical and thermal energy are interchangeable. for example, when mechanical work is transferred into heat or heat into work, the quantity of work in joules is equal to the quantity of heat in joules.
